Go Fishing with Charlie Whelan

Having given up his day job as Spin Doctor to Gordon Brown who was Prime Minister in waiting Charlie Whelan now lives the quiet life on Speyside, fishing on the world famous river Spey. Now you can join him for few hours fishing for wild trout and salmon in the Highlands of Scotland and ask the question, was there a 'Deal or No Deal?'

About Charlie Whelan

The former Press Secretary to Gordon Brown when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer has given up spinning in the hot waters of Westminster. Now he wades in the cooler climes of the Highlands where even the worst of Scottish weather cannot subdue his enthusiasm for the art of fly fishing.

Not satisfied with breaking his "duck" on his first trip to Speyside he went on to take his first double figure fish and then his first 20 plus salmon not long after. Charlie knows the waters near his home as well as anyone and will find the fish. Whether you are looking for a bit of salmon or sea trout fishing or to pursue some of the fantastic wild brown trout on Speyside Chalie can guide you.

The Fishing

There are so many angling opportunities in and around Grantown on Spey whether you are fishing for salmon and sea trout on the exceptional Association waters of Grantown and Abernethy or one of the nearby private beats. When it comes to trout there are some wonderful places of great scenic beauty to while away the time exploring the river Dulnain or drifting near the Wolf of Badenoch's island stronghold on Lochindorb.

To whet your appetite have a look at our 'Where to Fish' directory for some background information on the local rivers and lochs. Charlie will be happy to guide you around his favourite haunts surrendering some of the secrets of his angling success.

When you have caught all the fish you want you may chose a change of scene. Charlie is also a keen golfer and would be happy to take you on a round of golf on one of the many stunning 18 and 9 hole golf courses in the area. Check out our Golf Guide to see what is available in the area.
