Week Ending 25th July 2010

The fishing at Kingennie has been very good over the past week. After the heavy rain last week all the ponds are back to full height and the fishing has really benefited from it.

The Bankside Pool has been fishing really well with dry flies being the top method when the fish are on the surface. When they moved a little deeper Buzzers have taken their share of fish as well as lures. Top flies have been Shuttlecocks and Hoppers when fishing dries and Olive Buzzers, Yellow Dancers and Orange Blobs are also taking a good share of the catches. P Coulson 2 for 5lb +12 returned, K Wiles 2 for 4lbs 8oz +8 returned and M Low 4 for 10lb +6 returned.

The Woodside Pool has benefited from the rain more than the other ponds and is now at full height and fishing well with lots of limit bags coming out. The top method has been the worm but most baits are still taking fish. J Davies 4 for 7lb, R Robinson 2 for 4lb and R Drummond 3 for 5lbs.

The Specimen Pond has really cleared and has made spotting the fish much easier but catching them a little trickier but those who found the method were greatly rewarded. The top flies have been the Yellow Dancer and as always the ever popular Miller Skunk is taking its share of fish. D Barr 2 for 15lb, J Hines 2 weighing 13lb and B Miller 6 for 35lbs.

The Boathouse Pond as been on great form with nearly all anglers taking fish. The natural approach seems to be the most productive with small Red Head Damsels, Bloodworms and Black Buzzers taking their share of fish. The water is becoming very clear and a delicate approach is making all the

difference. L bell 3 for 12lb, P Smith 2 for 7lb and J Harrison 2 for 8lb. The average size for this pond is still at quite a high weight around 3lbs 8oz.

NEWS Last week saw a regular appearance of the osprey on the ponds. He has been putting on a great show for the anglers on the ponds coming very close and flying overhead before taking his fish.

As of the 26th of July the Specimen Pond name will be changed to the Burnside Pool. The bigger fish will be returning to their original home in the Boathouse Pool with the Burnside being stocked to a very high density.

The top rod on the Specimen Pond over the last two years has been Bob Miller with very impressive 252 fish for 1,694lb 5oz giving an average weight of 6lbs 11oz. Over this time his largest rainbow was 15lb 4oz and the largest brown weighing in at 9lb 8oz.

Week Ending 18th July 2010

It was a varied week at Kingennie with the weather playing a big part in the fishing returns. On the upside the Specimen Pool once again has had the anglers catching some good double figure fish. Dave Preston had 4 for 33lbs – biggest 15lbs 4oz - all caught on a Bronze Polar Bear and Mr. Stoddart took 4 for 28lbs 10oz using PTN’s. The catch and release boys have had good fun with the average returns per angler being around 7/8 fish weighing between 2 and 4lb.

The Bankside Pool gave up some nice fish last week with Mr. Devlin using a White Bunny Leech to net 4 for 12lb, H Frazer 4 for 10lb 4oz on a Mini Yellow Dancer and G Yule 4 for 9lb 1oz on a CDC Hopper. The wind during the middle of the week slowed things down a little but a few hardy anglers persevered catching fish all between the 2 to 4lb mark. Catch and release has been very prolific - Ian Ferguson returned 30 fish all caught on a floating line and a little Black Buzzer, Mr. Francey put back 22, G Mills returned 19, A Drummond 16, E Nisbet 14 - all fish caught on a variety of flies including the Daddylonglegs, Fritz and Vivas.

As always the Woodside Pool continues to keep the any method angling fraternity very happy with catches being in the region of 2 to 3lbs and most bag limits are filled relatively quickly. The usual baits are working well with Powerbait, worms, maggots doing best.

4th July 2010

There has been another excellent week on the any method pool - The Woodside. The Durie Lodge Angling Club paid us a visit this week and went away with 45 fish weighing 76lb - not a bad days fishing!  As always this pool continues to produce the angler’s quotas of good quality fish in record times and is fast becoming a family favourite. There is not a great deal to say on this pool, as the any method anglers continue to reach their permit allocation in good times. Usual baits being worm, sweetcorn, Powerbait and maggots all working equally well

Week Ending 20th June 2010

The Specimen Pool at Kingennie has been giving some good fish this week with the largest being a 14lb 8oz specimen for Mr. Burns fishing from the boat and included in his total of 23lb closely followed by Ian Kennedy who had 2 for 21lbs 4oz caught on a Black Fritz. Catch and release anglers are continuing to return good figures with the number of fish caught averaging 3/5lb and around 7/8 fish per angler.

The Bankside Pool has been fishing reasonably well but the fish are lying very deep and the anglers have to work a little harder than normal to get results. John Nisbet netted 4 for 11lb on a CDC, A. Maxwell 4 for 9lbs 8oz on a Green Blob, E Knowles 4 for 7lbs 3oz on a Cat’s Whisker and Martin Ferguson had 2 for 5lb 3oz on a Black Bunny Leech and his brother David used a Viva to take a brace weighing 3lb 2oz.The catch and release anglers are still enjoying good sport with returns in the region of 8/10 fish per person all in the weigh in area of 2/4lbs - Buzzers, Nymphs and various lures are  all accounting for fish.

The Woodside Pool has been fishing its heart out with Powerbait, worms, maggots and sweetcorn all doing well. This is fast becoming a real family pool where all the parents and kids have a nice relaxing day and can catch a few fish.

Week Ending 13th June 2010

It has been a week of mixed fortunes, due to the weather conditions, however some good fish have been caught on the Specimen Pool.

Mr. I Lorimar had a nice 11lb trout amongst his three fish total of 22lb, on the boat Mr. Herald landed a nice 10 lb rainbow whilst Mr. Kerr and his friends had twelve fish for 94lb caught mainly on Hoppers Damsels and Nomads. Most anglers reported that the fish were lying quite deep but still catchable as returns of a decent numbers of fish showed.

The Boathouse Pool has had a bit of colour in it but it hasn't stop the fish seeing the angler’s flies with Ed McEwen taking  two cracking fish weighing, in total, 7lb 8oz with a few returned as well. Most of the fish this week have been around the 3lb mark with the odd 6lb+ fish coming out. Bob Miller had a go on the Boathouse after catching two for 15lb on the Specimen and then went on to catch and release another seven all on the Miller Skunk.

The Bankside Pool had a good week with Mr. Lees having six for 13lb on a Yellow Dancer; Mr. Jamieson five for 11lb on a Yellow Booby, Mr. K Adams had four for 10 lb, Mr. Christie two at 6lb on a mini Yellow Dancer and Mr. Butchart two for 6lb on a Daddy Longlegs. The catch and release anglers have had a good deal of success – Mr. J Miller eight fish on a Cat’s Whisker, Mr. S Black nine on a Yellow Dancer and his friend Mr. Stevens took five on a Yellow Bunny Leech. The Bankside played host to the Macmillan cancer support big fish event and all anglers had a great day with one angler doing very well indeed, Frazer Russell won a prize for being the top fundraiser with £410 and he also won a prize for the biggest fish with a fine rainbow of 8lb 2oz. To make his day even better the large rainbow had a tag in its fin worth £500 so a big well done to Frazer and the rest of the participants. We are still taking names for the Kingennie Full Moon competition on the 26th of June - fishing starts at 17.00hrs and will finish at 00.00hrs (cash prize for first place).

The Woodside Pool has given the bait anglers a lot of fun this week with a large number of fish up to 2lb being caught, using the favourite baits of worm and Powerbait.

Week Ending 7th June 2010

Sport has been a little slower at Kingennie Fishings this week with anglers on the Specimen Pool really having to work for their catch as most of the fish were lying very deep and a bit lethargic. However, those who persevered eventually started to get results with Jim Devlin netting a nice 12lb trout followed by a 4lb fish. Ian Robertson had a brace for 11lbs on a Yellow Dancer Andy Murphy 3 for 11lbs 4oz on Buzzers and W Ramsay landed a nice 5lb 2oz brown trout caught on a little Damsel Fly just as he decided to pack up.

The Boathouse Pool has been quite good and Alex Easton had his six fish limit in just two and half hours all caught on a Black Fritz. Frazer Donaldson had 4 for 14lbs on a Floating Fry; T Potter 4 for 12lbs on a CDC, H. Johnstone 3 for 11lbs using a Daddy Longlegs and A. Seivwright had 3 for 9lbs on a Hot Head Damsel. The catch and release boys have also enjoyed good returns with over eighty fish being put back safely in the weekly period.

The Bait Pool as normal enjoyed good returns with the average fish weighing around 1lb 8oz but the odd "biggie" over 3lb is also getting caught. Baits as usual - worms, Powerbait, maggot, sweetcorn, and spinners all doing their job.

The Bankside Pool has had a reasonable week with fish up to 8lb getting caught. Jim Young landed 4 for 13lbs 2oz using a Silver Invicta, and his fishing partner had 3 for 11lbs 1oz on an Orange Blob. R Brown 3 for 10lbs, his son David had 2 for 8lbs 2oz on a Bunny Leech, a Black Zonker helped M Webster to take 2 for 9lbs 1oz and D Burns caught 2 for 8lbs 11oz on a White Mini Minkie. A special mention to Jack Little, who, for his weeks catch and release safely returned 93 fish, nearly all caught on Orange Blob and Black & Green Hoppers.

Week Ending 30th May 2010

It has been a fairly quiet week on the Specimen Pond with only three doubles coming off. Most of the fish have been caught on fast intermediate or sunk lines. Flies that have worked well have all been big marabou tailed lures like the UV Bronze Polar Bear and the UV White Polar Bear. Anglers who have had an early start have done the best with fish holding up around the sluice gates making them easy to target but later in the day fish have been moving into the deeper parts of the pond making things that wee bit harder. Notable catches on the Specimen Pond included Iain McHinlay (Dunbartonshire) had two fish for 24lb 8oz with one being the biggest fish of the week at 14lb 8oz the other a fine fish of 10lb. Mark Small (Dundee) was the only other double catcher last week with fish of 10lb 4oz taken using a 5 weight rod with 6lb leader and Frank Small (Dundee) had two fish for 16lb.

On the Boathouse Pond the water has had a bit of colour in it but that hasn't put the fish off at all they have been hammering lures all week like Polar Bears and Dancers fished on a floating or sink tip line all doing well. There have been some nice rises later in the day when Muddlers and CDCs have had a few fish. Best catch of the week went to Hugh Bairner who managed a huge bag of 4 fish for 23lb 4oz with all of them falling to a big black Bunny Leech fished on a floating line. Other good catches included Sandy Knight 3 fish for 17lb 8oz, Con Rogan 3 fish for16lb 8oz and Ian Willis 3 fish for 16lb. On the Bankside Pond anglers

have had no trouble reaching limits and more with season ticket holder Ian Gordon taking 91 (yes ninety one) for his weeks fishing with nearly all of his fish being caught on an Olive CDC. Ian Ferguson beat his personal best with 21 fish for his days fishing and Mark Smith also had a good day on catch and release with 22 fish for his efforts. Most of the fish last week were caught on or near the surface with dries and floating fry patterns all doing well. Nearly all the anglers who have been on kill tickets have reached limits with the average weight of fish working out close to 3lb. On the Any Method Pond it has been worms that have caught most of the fish with spinners also doing very well – the average weight of the fish last week has been 1lb 5oz.

Could all anglers note that the Bankside Pond will be closed for the day on the 12th of June for the Macmillan big fish event and on the 26th of June the pond will also be closed for the Kingennie full moon evening competition and anyone wishing to enter can do so by calling 01382 350213 or 350777 and ask for Jonnie or Brian

Week Ending 2nd May 2010

Most of the fish being caught on the Bankside and Boathouse have been on intermediate lines as the fish have been put down by cold easterly winds and bright sunshine. Most of the anglers are very complimentary about the New Pool and the size of fish stocked.

The Woodside Pool, or the any method pool as it’s called, has been giving our bait anglers some fun this week. Jim Colquhoun caught a 3lb 5oz trout on his first cast and a 2lb 3oz on his second. The usual baits are performing well – Powerbait, worms, brandling worms and of course maggots. Colin Shaw and Jim Laird had 6 for 9lbs on a combination of bait and fly whilst Mr McLeavy landed 4 for 6lbs on a little Mepp.

The Bankside Pool as usual has been performing well with fish up to 8lb being caught. Terry McPhee, using a White Bunny Leech caught a 7lb 12 0z rainbow followed by a 6lb 7oz trout. The McKenzie brothers were on form landing 4 for 11lbs on a Yellow Dancer and Wattie Duncan took 3 for 9lbs on a Humungus. Allie Stirton was lucky to land his 3lb 5oz fish. as his net broke just as the fish was lifted out of the water. Catch and release anglers were in fine form as their returns show. The average fish returned per angler over the week was 12/14 – not too bad considering the weather!

Week Ending 28th March 2010

Once again it has been a good week on the Specimen Pool with J Ferguson catching 4 for 25lbs on a White Bunny Leech closely followed by Hugh Bairner with 3 for 23lbs caught on a Green Pea. Mark Smith had a brace for 31lbs on his favourite "secret weapon", Mr Gowans 2 for 10lbs – best a brownie at nearly 6lb and Bob McHardie 2 for 10lbs on a Black & Green Fritz. Bob Miller had a 7lb fish taken on a Miller Special whilst boat fishing, Mr Barr landed 2 for 9lbs on a Yellow Dancer and Stefan caught a fine 6lb fish. Young Jamie McAteer caught a nice 4lb rainbow whilst fishing with his dad who in turn landed a fish of 7lb on a Bunny Leech .Most anglers reckoned the fish were lying pretty deep and needed a bit of coaxing to get them interested.

The new Boathouse Pool got off to a great start when it opened on Saturday with Jim Massey catching the first two fish of the day that tipped the scales at 7lbs for the brace and the catch and release guys have been putting in returns of between six and nine fish each.

The Bankside Pool has thrown up a few surprises this week with Liam Kirk catching a 10lb fish on a Yellow Dancer; Mr Strickland had 2 for 11lbs, Messrs. Rathband 2 for 6lbs and 2 weighing 5lb respectively. Mr Strickland had a brace for 10lbs, Mr Johnstone 4 for 7lbs and Mr. Brown 2 for 4lbs. The catch and release guys have had a good week with Craig Dickson returning over twenty fish, Liam Kirk eighteen,. Jim Scott sixteen and Dave McKinlay fourteen. The majority of fish would appear to be in the two to four pound mark with the occasional "biggie" being caught. The Bunny Leech, Yellow Dancer, Buzzers, Cat’s Whisker all seem to be the ‘flies of the week’.The Bait Pool has had an enjoyable week. Tom McFarlane had a 5lb rainbow, whilst Gordon Davies had a 3lb trout on the worm. Most fish were caught as usual on Powerbait, worm, sweetcorn and maggot.

Week Ending 21st March 2010

It was a bit quieter last week at Kingennie with the windy weather causing a few problems. Most of the fish seemed to be lying on the bottom, and were playing with the flies rather than taking. However perseverance seemed to be the key and eventually fish did get caught.

On the Specimen Pool Mark Smith had 4 for 22lbs on a home- made Mayfly, Mr Linton took 3 for 22lbs on a White Booby, Mr Lees had a brace for 12lbs on a White & Green Booby and Mr Harvey took 4 weighing /24lb on a Gold Humungus and a White Bunny Leech.

The Bankside Pool has had a slightly better week with a fish in the region of 8lb being caught by our catch and release angler George Birse who also had upwards of 30 fish in three days. Ian Gordon had 17fish in a couple of days Messrs Low, Maddox, and Reilly, had 14 fish between them weighing in at 39lb all caught on a Gold Head and Lead Head Buzzers and Mr Simpson took 2 for 6lbs on a Yellow It was a bit quieter last week at Kingennie with the windy weather causing a few problems. Week Ending 14th March 2010

Now that the weather has improved at Kingennie lots of fish are being caught. The Specimen Pool gave up some nice trout with the Fulton boys and Mr Tervit having 6 for n36lbs taken on a Bunny Leech, Bob Miller had 2 for 16lbs on a White Saddleback and Messrs. Lees and Innes had a 4 for 23lbs from the boat using the Green Pea and Blobs – on another visit they caught 3 for 19lbs on the same patterns. Mark Smith had 2 for 12lbs on the Bloodworm; Mr. Simpson caught 3 for 20lbs on a Yellow & Black Booby whilst Mr Alexander had 2 for 1olbs on a Bunny Leech and a Green Pea.

The Woodside Pool, or any method pool as its lovingly called, has given some good returns last week with the 80 plus anglers nearly all getting their quota. Davey Sanderson landed a nice 3lb 4oz rainbow to finish his day. A strange assortment of baits were used last week varying from the usual Powerbait and worms, to pieces of meat and crusty bread.

The Bankside Pool also had a cracking week with Mr Fenton and his mate Derek taking 12 for 26lbs, Mr Massie 3 for 8lbs, Mr Cook 2 for 7lbs, Mr Duncan 2 for 7lbs and Mr Keith 2 for 6lbs. The Storrier boys took 4 for 9lbs on the Damsel and Bloodworm and the bulk of the fish were taken on the Bunny Leech and small flies such as the Diawl Bach and Buzzers. The catch and release anglers all reported good returns as usual and catches included Mr Longmuir 44, Mr Mahoney 30, George Birse 70 over three days, Mr Russell 23 and Mr McMillan 15.

Week Ending 21st February 2010

Some good fish have been caught on the Specimen Pool recently. Mark Smith had 2 for 25lbs – best 18lbs, B Miller had 2 for 25 4oz with his best tipping the scales at 15lbs 4oz, Mr Thompson caught a brace weighing 21lbs – best 14lbs and Mr Laird had 2 for 21lbs on a Damsel Nymph. The two Mr Lees had 8 for 40lbs on the boat on a Hot Head Damsel and Mr Warder took 2 for 15lbs o the Fergus. The average weight appears to be around the 7lbs mark but with a few big surprises thrown in!

The Bankside Pool has had some good returns with Gilbert Cheetham taking 4 for 12lbs on a White Nomad, Mr Gloak had 2 for 7lbs on a Black Nomad, Mr Grant 3 for 5lbs, Mr Thompson had one at 6lbs on a Yellow Dancer, Mr Fortieth 1for 4lbs and Mr Fraser 1 for 3lbs on a Nymph. The catch and release lads had a good week as well with some anglers returning 10/15 fish on a session.

The Woodside Pool, or any method pool as it’s called, is living up to its name with lots of fish getting caught, on a variety of baits, sweetcorn, worms, spinners and Powerbait. Most anglers are catching their limit in a reasonable time. Mr Melloy had 4 for 7lbs, Dave Scobie 4 for 6lbs and John Ferguson 4 for 5lbs so not too bad a week considering the weather.

Week Ending 7th February 2010

The wee spell of settled weather has done the world of good for the fishing at Kingennie. The water has started to clear up nice with a good few feet of clarity in all of the ponds.

The Specimen Pond has seen some real cracking fish come off with an average of 8lb for the week. Two lucky anglers went home from the specimen with doubles - Greg McDowall had the biggest fish with a fine rainbow of 12lb 8oz his fish was caught on a floating line with a Black Cone Head Fritz whilst the other double went to Gary Baird and his fish was 12lb and was taken on a an intermediate line with a mini Viva. Also on the specimen pond Bob Miller had his 200th fish since the pond opened the 8lb fish was caught on a Yellow Dancer so well done Bob. The most productive flies on the specimen have been black lures but more natural flies have also done well with Bloodworm, Buzzers and Nymphs all catching a few fish. Other notable catches included Ian Thompson 9lb 14oz, Aaron Goodrum 9lb 12oz rainbow, Mark Smith 8lb 10oz and Bob Miller 8lb 6oz.

On the Bankside Pool anglers on catch and release day tickets have had returns of up to 30 fish. Most fish have been caught using floating lines and mini lures but like the Specimen Bloodworm, Buzzers and other naturals have all done well producing a fair number of fish. Notable catches included Andy Rutherford c&r 47 on bloodworm, Brian Longmuir c&r 25 with a brown of 4lbs 8oz and a rainbow of 5lb mostly on a Bunny Leech, Ian Gordon 73 c&r for the week most on lures such as a Yellow Cone Head and a Yellow Dancer and Mr. Longmuir 14 c&r mostly on Bloodworm.

The Woodside Pond has been quiet but the anglers who have been out have all had their limits and flies have worked best but power bait and worms have also done well.

Week Ending 31st January 2010

At last, reasonably good weather and happy fishermen at the fishery. The Specimen Pool has had a few good fish caught. The two biggest catches of the week were by the Johnston duo 8 for 48lb and the two Bairner lads with had 6 for 35lb. Mr. Heenan caught 2 for 16lbs whilst Messrs. Henderson and Fox had 2 for 16lbs and 2 for 14lbs respectively. The Cat’s Whisker, Yellow Dancer, Fritz and Olive patterns did most of the damage.

The Bankside Pool has given the catch and release lads a cracker of a week with fish upwards of 100 being returned in just over three days. The average size of the caught fish was around about the 2lb 8oz mark. Gilbert had 6 for 14lbs, Mr Duncan 2 for 5lbs, Mr Batchelor 1 for 3lbs and M Thompson 2 for 5lbs mostly caught on the Yellow Dancer, Buzzers and Damsels.

The Woodside Pool, as normal, gage the bait anglers a good return to Powerbait and worms and occasionally a little bloodworm fly also worked well.

Week Ending 20th December 2009

Winter has well and truly set in at Forbes of Kingennie.  The cold weather over the last couple of weeks has improved the fishing on the Bankside Pool where the water has lost its tinge and the fish have moved into the shallower water in the bays.  Despite the hard frost and snow the fish are still feeding on small flies such as Spiders, Sedges and weighted Damsels. Notable catches included Mr. Lock 3 for 7lb, Mr. Craig from Stirling C+R 22 on sedge patterns, Mr. Laing 4 for 12lb, Mrs. Williamson 3 for 8lb and Mr. Black C+R 12 on Damsels.

The Specimen Pool has fished a bit slower this week but those who braved the conditions had some nice fish.  The pool has fished best early morning with sinking lines and big lures seeming to be the method of choice for most of the specimen hunters. The best fish of the week was caught by Mr. S Ross and the fish tipped the scales at 9lb 8oz - Steven tempted this fine rainbow on a green and white lure on a DI3 fished really slowly. Other best catches included T James, Dundee, 2 for 16lb 3oz, Mr. Potter, Aberdeen, 4 for 28lb, Mr. Thompson 3 for 21lb and Grant Osler 2 for 16lb 5oz.

The Woodside Pool is still fishing best to Powerbait fished off the bottom and there have been some cracking fish caught in the last couple of weeks - the biggest last week was caught by local angler Andy Armstrong who tempted a rainbow of 3lb 3oz on Powerbait

Week Ending 13th December 2009

The bright sunshine and flat calm conditions have made the fishing tough at Kingennie last week but some anglers have made it look very easy.

The Specimen Pond is still holding a fair bit of colour but the fish are still being caught although it has been quite difficult. Flies that have worked well have had one thing in common and that was plenty of marabou so that means using the likes of the Humungus, Bunny Leech, Zonkers and of course the Miller Skunk. Most of the fish caught on the Specimen this week have been taken on intermediate lines with a slow retrieve. Notable catches for the week included J Mclean 2/23lb on a homemade lure; Bob Weir had 2/19lb on a Cat’s Whisker and Mr Broomfield 2/12lb.

The Bankside Pond has again seen the best of the action and once again it was Ian Gordon that has made things look easy taking catches of 10, 12, 16 and 18 fish all on four hour catch and release sessions. Most of Ian's fish were taken on a Yellow Cone Head fished on a floating line in the bays. Gilbert Cheetham also had a bumper day when he kept 6 fish for 12lb and then went on to catch and release a further 14. Best method on the Bankside last week was to cast lures along the reeds to where fish are hitting small roach and perch fry. Mr Nettles had 6/13lb on a White Nomad, Mr Gilbert 6/12lb and Mr Fraser 5/11lb on a Yellow Dancer.

The Woodside any method pond has cleared up a bit more and the clarity of the water is much better now. Fly tactics are working well again but anglers are finding that they have to use intermediate or sinking lines to get down to the feeding depth of the fish and the best flies have been the same as the other ponds. Mr Shaw 4/7lb, Dave Stoddart had 4/7lb also and a fair number of our other anglers had similar catches.

Week Ending 6th December 2009

The weather was poor last week but the fishing has been red hot for the anglers who braved the poor conditions. Strong winds and rain for most of the week have made the fishing difficult. The ponds do have a bit of colour in them from all the rain but it hasn't put the fish off the feed as the fresh water coming through the system has had the fish fighting very hard.

The Specimen Pond has been the slowest of all the ponds with anglers having to work hard for their limits. Big dark lures fished on an intermediate or floating has been the most productive method on the Specimen. Anglers have found the fish to be a couple of feet down and need a slow constant retrieve to tempt them. Flies such an Ace of Spades, Bunny Leech and Humongous all worked well last week. Notable catches included Mr Warder, Perth, had 4 for 25lb all on a Fergus Dancer, the Johnston party 4 rods, 11 fish for 67lb, J O'Brien 2 for 17lb, G Huston 2 for 16lb 8oz, D Black 2 for 14lb and M Small 2 for 12lb.

The Bankside Pool has again fished the best of all the ponds with some anglers catching and releasing up to 20 fish in a four hour session and anglers on day tickets have been going on to catch many more. Fish have been going to various lures such as the Cat’s Whisker, Nomads, Dancers and Zonkers. Some fish have been coming off to traditional flies but the sport has been much better on lures, blobs and little Devils. Notable catches for the

Gilbert Cheetham 6 for 14lbs and Ian Gordon 20 returned in 4hours.

On the Woodside Pool any legal method pond baits have worked better than fly or spinning and green Powerbait fished just off the bottom has been the best method of catching most anglers getting limits with no trouble.

Bankside included Mr M Grant 2 for 6lb with 27 returned, Mr S Grant 2 for 4lb 12oz with 16 returned, A Stevens 32 returned all on Cats Whisker,

Week Ending 29th November 2009

The beginning of the week at Kingennie Fishings has been a little quieter due to the weather, however, the latter part of the week saw some good catches from the three pools.

The  Specimen Pool gave J. Ferguson a nice 12lb fish caught on an Orange Fritz whilst D. Black had two fish for 16lb on a Humungus. Mr Small got his two for 13lb also on a Humungus; Mr Bairner caught his two for 12lbs on a Black Fritz.

The Woodside Pool as usual is keeping our bait fishermen happy with lots of fish around about the 2lb mark being taken on worm, sweetcorn and of course Powerbait. Our junior anglers are doing well - a mention for young David Smeaton from Glasgow, first time fishing, caught a 2lb 2oz fish - not bad for a five year old.

The Bankside Pool as usual fished extremely well; Mr Rennie had six for 13lb on an Orange Fritz, Mr. Butchart two for 5lb on an Orange Blob, the Bairners fishing catch and release had 60 fish between the two of them nearly all caught on the Cats Whisker and the Yellow Dancer. Mr Prior on a four hour ticket had 14, again on the Orange Fritz, Ian Gordon and George Birse had 10 each on Bloodworm and the Bunny Leech and Mr. Stewart having nine for his three hour session.

Week Ending 22 November 2009

It has been a week of heavy rain and high winds at Kingennie and made the fishing really difficult. The water on most of the ponds has been chocolate brown for most of the week which has meant the fly anglers have had to put their flies right in front of the fish to stand any chance of catching. The best method for catching this week has been to retrieve lures very slow on intermediate lines this has been the case on all the fly ponds. On the any legal method pond ledgered power bait has been the most productive method with float fished maggots or worms coming a close second.

The Bankside Pond has been the least affected by all the rain with about three feet of clarity in the water. All sorts of flies have worked on the Bankside when the wind has settled down for any length of time again the most productive method has been to fish lures on an intermediate line.

Notable catches for the Specimen Pond included Terry Keane 2 fish for 19lb one at 11lb, Andrew Keane 2fish for 17lb 9 oz, S Mclean 2 fish for 16lb 6oz, M Ferry 1 fish for 13lb and Kevin Martin 1 fish for 12lb 4oz .

On the Bankside Pond Shane Busher 6 fish for 17lb, Paul Mason 6 fish for 14lb with 11 returned, Luke Collins 4 for 13lb4oz with 6 returned and Eamon West 4 for 12lb 8 oz with 9 returned.  Gavin Harvey 19 on C+R, Stan Harvey 18 C+R Henry Knight 15 C+R and Grant Osler 14 C+R.

Names are now being taken for the Boxing Day competition - it has a limit of 30 places and has some amazing prizes from stays in our lodges to season tickets for the fishing ponds so get your names to Jonnie or Brian in the sportsman's entrance to avoid missing out.

Week Ending 15th November 2009

Here at Kingennie it has been a week of mixed fortunes due to the weather conditions but despite this some good fish have been caught.

On the Specimen Pool, Jim Glens had a nice 11lb trout amongst his three fish total of 18lb, on the boat Mr Ferguson landed a nice 10 lb rainbow, whilst Mr Bailey and his friends had nine fish caught mainly on White Nomad and Green Pea variants.

The Bankside Pool has had a good week. Mr Clark had six for 13lb on a Yellow Dancer, Mr Jamieson five for 11lb on a Yellow Booby, Mr Ferguson had four for 10lb, Mr Christie two at 6lb on a Mini Yellow Dancer and Mr Batchelor two for 6lb on a Daddy Longlegs. The catch and release anglers have also had a good deal of success - Mr Thompson eight fish on a Cat’s Whisker, Mr Reid nine on a Yellow Dancer and his friend Mr Burke five on a Yellow Bunny Leech. Other anglers using Daddy Longlegs the Black Humungus and the White Fritz are all reporting good catches.

The Woodside Pool has given the bait anglers a lot of fun this week with a large number of fish up to 2lb being caught, using the favourite baits of worm and Powerbait.

9th November 2009

The fishing this week at Kingennie has been hard due to very murky water caused by heavy rain fall recently.

Anglers on the Specimen Pond who have persevered have been rewarded with some cracking fish. Mark Small had his second double in two weeks with a fine rainbow of 14lb caught on a home tied lure .Jim Tait has had another couple of sessions this past week and he showed he still has the magic touch when it comes to the big fish he had seven fish for 46lb 8oz - most of his fish were caught on a Bleeding Cat .The most productive tactics have been single lure fished on a floating or sink tip line. Other notable catches included  D McKenzie 4 for 32lb one at 15lb caught on big home tied black and green lure, R Young 4 for 31lb one at 13lb 6oz all on a Gold Humungus, M Small 2 for 19lb one at 14lb. Kildrum AC, 6 rods had 24 fish for 172lb.

The Bankside Pool has been just as hard a fish this week with the coloured water making its way through the system .The dirty water  combined with flat calm conditions for most of the week have made fishing on the Bankside very hard and anglers found that a very slow retrieve or fishing static under a bung has been just about the only way to consistently catch fish. Other methods have worked but are only picking up the odd fish. Flies that have worked well this week have been a wide range of Damsels, Buzzers and Floating Fry of various sizes. Included amongst the best catches were K Black 6 for 20lb one at 8lb with 4 returned, Davie West 2 for 7lb with one at 5lb he also returned 6 on a four hour session and R Smith had 13 on catch and release mostly on Damsels.

The Woodside any legal method pond has also been affected by the coloured water and the best bait this week has been Green Power Bait fished just off the bottom. The ponds should start to clear now in the next few days as long as we don't get much rain. The prospects for the coming week are good with very little rain forecast over the next seven days.

Week Ending 1st November 2009

It was an eventful week at Kingennie with the weather not so good the water very brown from all the rain we have had but never the less some good fish were caught. The Specimen Pool gave up some big fish with Mr McCabe taking a 15lb trout on a Bunny Leech closely followed by Mr Small with a 13 lb specimen. The normal size fish varied in size from 6 to 10lbs and were being taken mainly on lures.

The Woodside Pool has been giving our bait anglers a good deal of pleasure this week with fish up to 2lb plus being caught with worms and power bait helping anglers get their bag limit.

Over on the Bankside Pool fish of 2lb to 3lb were giving the guys a good bit of sport. The top taking patterns included the CDC, Humungus and the Cat’s Whisker. The catch and release anglers enjoyed themselves with lots of fish being safely returned.

Week Ending 11th October 2009

It has been a week for the big fish at Kingennie with the average fish coming off the Specimen Pool weighing around the 9lb mark pound .Jim Tait had his first outing in months and as usual he bagged some doubles - three in total one at 10lb, one at 12lb and his biggest was 14lb with most of them being caught on his famous Bleeding Cat’s Whisker. He also managed a brown of about 8lb which was returned to the water. Lots of different flies have worked well last week with the most popular being lures of black or white. Notable catches for the week as follows - Bob McHardy four fish for 29lb 10oz – biggest just over the 10lb mark, Brian Armstrong four fish for 25lb - biggest fish was 9lb 4oz, Henry Fulton three fish for 33lb. The biggest fish of the week from the Specimen Pond was caught by Derek Morrison at 17lb 2oz.The Bankside Pool is still fishing well with season ticket holders reporting returns in the teens for half day sessions with a good mix of fish coming off and as usual rainbows have varied in weigh from just under three pounds up to about the 7lbs mark. Most fish are still being caught on floating lines with notable catches featuring Sam Turrif 6 for 17lb, Brian Swan 6 for 16lb 10oz, D Stewart 2 for 7lb and T Baxter 2 for 6lb 8oz.The Woodside pool has seen most anglers leave with bag limits - all baits have been working well but spinners and fly have been the most productive.

Week Ending 27th September 2009

The weather was a little unsettled last week at Kingennie but that didn't put the fish off with some anglers getting fish to remember.Specimen Pool angler J McGough had the biggest fish of the week with a monster rainbow of 16lb taken on a lure. The Specimen has produced a lot of fish in and around the10lb mark with at least 5 doubles coming off over the week. Most of the fish on the specimen pond have been caught on lures with the odd fish falling to Buzzers and Bloodworm. Nearly all the fish have been caught on floating lines close to the surface. Featuring amongst the best catches were  A Webster 2 for 22lb both 11lb, T McMaster 2 for19.5lb 1 at 12lb 4oz, D Wilkie 2 for 17lb 4oz and N Oreily 1 for 14lb.

The Bankside Pool finished off a very busy week with the casting for recovery retreat a guided days fishing for women who are recovering from breast cancer. A great day was had by all with most of the ladies managing to hook and land at least one fish so a big thank you to all the CFR staff who made the weekend very enjoyable for all. Flies that have done best on Bankside were different colours of Bunny

Leech, Nomads and Buzzers. All fish caught have been very close to the surface or just below.

The Woodside Pool has seen most anglers leave with bag limits with all methods doing well. The best bait has been power bait (orange), best lure has been small Mepps and the best flies have been Nomads mainly black or orange

Week Ending 20th September 2009

The Woodside any method pool has fish really well with most anglers getting bag limits the bait of choice this week has been Powerbait worms followed closely by real worms and maggots.

The fishing has been electric at Kingennie with the Bankside Pond fishing the best of all. For the first time in weeks season ticket holders have been recording returns of 30+ on some days.  George Birse had 55 returned for two days fishing and Ian Gordon wasn't far behind with 50 for two days fishing. The fish have been taking all sorts of flies but the best ones have been Black Buzzers and the Bunny Leech in white or black. The water clarity is good and the algae cleared with the high water we had a couple of weeks ago. The best of the rises have been in the morning with the fish taking on the surface or just in the surface film.

Featuring amongst the best catches were G Birse 35 caught and returned in one session, I Gordon 30 C&R in one session Mr. Fowler 6 for18lbs 8oz – best 6lb. Fraser Mitchell 6 for 16lb with a brownie of 3lbs 8oz, Douglas Mitchell 6 for 15lbs 8oz and Alan Dempster 2 for 8lb. Sean Grieve took 2 for 7lbs 8oz with a blue of 4lb and the big brownie was lucky again being hooked by a catch and release angler he estimated its weight at 11lb. The Specimen Pond has fished well with most anglers getting their fish on lures along with the odd fish being caught dries in the evening. Olive and Black Buzzers have also worked quite well and notable catches included Burnside AC 10 rods had 32 fish for 225lb biggest was 13lbs 8oz caught on a Yellow Dancer by Rob Taylor who took 4 29lb, Andy Collins 4 for 27lb 9oz, Grant Donnelly 2 for 21lb best 11lbs,W Cargill 1 for 11lbs 8oz.

Week ending 7th September 2009

The fishing over the last week has been on top form with the Specimen Pond still being the best with most anglers taking their limits. The heavy rain caused some problems with flooding but all the ponds are open again benefiting from a flush of fresh water. The specimen pond is continuing to produce big fish with 4 doubles coming off with the biggest at 12lb. The top fly has been a Black and Gold Humongous with a Hot Head Damsel or an Orange Bunny Leech taking plenty of fish as well. The fish are still high in the water with a floating or sink tips being all you need to get to the fish. The top catches have been J Black 4-31lb, Chris Denhan 4-29lb, Kevin Murty 4-26lb 8oz, T Small 2-19lb.

The Woodside Pool has been fishing as well as it has in months with fish coming to all methods from worm to fly. The fish have been coming off all over the pond with no area doing better than any other. There have even been a couple of bigger fish coming out up to around 3lb mark. The top bags were N Hunter 4-8lb, R Smith 4-6lb 2oz, H Lee 2-4lb and B Hickson 2-3lb 9oz.

The Bankside has been producing lots of fish to small flies and naturals with the top flies being the Cormorant and small black traditional wets. The usual lures such as Blobs and Yellow Dancers are still taking their share of trout. The fish have moved around with the pond holding trout all over the place. The top bags for this week have been W Wardlaw 6-15lb, R Drummond6-14lb 8oz, C Martin 2-6lb and J Wilson 2-5lb 6oz.

The Coarse Pond has been in for with 3 carp taken in the last week and more than a few lost. They have been coming up to the top on bread of luncheon meat on the bottom. They are easily seen cruising around on top of the weed beds but getting them to take is harder than it looks. There have been some good numbers of small fish come out mostly being perch and small roach as well as brownies.

Week Ending 31st August 2009

The fishing last week at Kingennie was red hot with most anglers taking limit bags from all ponds.

The Specimen Pond produced five doubles with the biggest at 13lb 2oz caught by Mr. Keannan in his bag of 2 for 18lb – the others were taken by Tony McCabe and John Thompson who both had fish just over the ten pound mark. Paul Curran and J. Reilly both did slightly better with fish just over the 12lb mark. The fish on the Specimen Pond have been very close to the surface with nearly all the fish being caught on floating lines with the fly of the week being the orange bunny leech. Other notable catches included Liam Kirk 4 for 28lbs 8oz, S Scott 2 for19lbs 10oz J Reilly 2 for 20lb and Paul Curran 2 for 20lbs 4oz.

The Woodside Pool has seen most anglers leave with bag limits and there is still a bit of a tinge to the water but this does not seem to be putting the fish off the feed at all as all baits have been working well with sweet corn and power bait doing the best. The pond has also fished quite well for the fly anglers with some great sport to be had on light tackle.

The Bankside Pool has fished well despite the colour in the water and all the rain we have had in the past few weeks has really helped the pond with water clarity improving by the day most of the fish on Bankside have been caught on small black wet flies or orange blobs fished alongside buzzers. Good evening rises have started to happen with all sorts of dries working well. Notable catches included the Westpark Angling Club 12rods for 58 fish for 162lbs, J Stimpson 6 for 18lb, Terry Clark 6 for 17lbs 2oz and Shane Busher 6 for 15lbs 8oz. Eddie Busher took 5 for 14lb – best 6lbs 8oz, R. Miller 4 for 12lb, Joe O'Brian 2 for 8lb – best 6lbs and Paul Mason 2 for 7lbs 9oz.

The Coarse Pond has fished very well with some nice mixed bags of small fish coming off not so many of the big carp getting caught this week but not many people fished for them last week.

Week Ending 23rd August 2009

The fishing this week at Kingennie has been good with lots of fish coming off all the ponds. The Specimen Pond has been fishing best of all but high numbers are coming off all the ponds. The weather has not helped the fishing on some days with a strong west wind blowing most of the week with some extremely heavy rain at times as well.

The best method on the Specimen Pond this week is still lures with a Techno cat and a Hot Head Damsel taking most fish but anglers need to step down the weight of your leader in the crystal clear water. When the conditions have suited they have been coming up for dry fly as well. The biggest fish so far this week was taken in on a dry fly that weighed in at 12lb as well as an 11 pounder that took a Cat. There are also brown trout starting to get caught again after their usual disappearing act over the summer. The best bags this week have been J Fleming with 4- 28lb7oz, N Smart 2-18lb and the Bannockburn angling club took 20 fish for 129lb that shows a good average size of nearly 6.5 lb.

The Bankside Pool has still got a lot of algae in it but there are fish coming off regularly. There has not been a top fly this week as everything from Yellow Dancers and Blobs to Buzzers and the Goat Toe taking fish. The average size in the pond is still up at around 2.5 pound with most fish being in excellent quality. The top bags have been C wood 6-17lb 9oz, P Coulson 2-6lb 5oz and  J Brown 2- 6lb2oz.

The Bait Pond has been in fine form as well there have been lots of fish coming off to worm and sweet corn with maggots and Powerbait still taking fish. There have been a few fish in the 2 to 3 pound mark coming off with the majority of fish being around 1lb. The top bags have been H Whitford 4 - 6lb 9oz, T White 3-5lb 3oz and G Johnston 2-3lb 5oz. The Coarse Pond has had little pressure over the past week but is producing lots of small fish but the big carp are proving hard to catch. The small carp are really starting to move about now with fish of up to half a pound coming out fairly regularly as well as small roach and rudd along with some very nice perch.

Week Ending 2nd August 2009

The fishing this week at Kingennie has been good with lots of fish being caught. The weather has been very changeable with fantastic sunshine one minute then heavy rain the next. The wind can’t make up its mind either but it is generally coming from the west blowing up big gusts causing problems with casting.

The Specimen Pond has been fishing best with fish coming out to a variety of methods but the best is still lures. There has not been one lure that has out fished any other it really has been a case of changing till you find what they want but black and green and Cats are the most popular. When lures don't work then Buzzers and Nymphs are getting fish especially in the evening. Top nymphs have been Red and Olive Buzzers or a Diawl Bach. The top bags this week have been D Barr 4-32lb M Shaw 3-26lb and L Bell 4-29lb 7oz

The Bankside Pool has still got a lot of algae in the water but with all the rain it is getting washed though and starting to clear. The top flies have been a Black or Orange Blob with some fish coming out to Buzzers of various colours. The top catches have been J Hinse 4-11lb 4oz C Perkins 4-10lb 3oz and J Davies 2-6lb 1oz.

The Woodside Pool has been producing lots of fish with most people coming off with bag limits. The best bait has been worms, power bait or power bait/worms. The best bags have been C Baily 6-10lb R Robinson 4-6lb 6oz and S Harrison 2-3lb 12oz.

On the warmer days the Coarse pond has been producing fish with all the small fish putting up a good account of themselves. There have been a few of the golden rudd and the bigger roach putting in an appearance. There have also been some small carp being caught from the stocking last year. There have been a couple of big carp including the well known leather. They are showing well on the surface but proving a bit tricky to hook. They are getting their heads down and feeding as the evenings are wearing on.

Week Ending 19th July 2009

Fishing last week at Kingennie has been all about the Specimen Pond with many of the bigger fish showing up in the catch returns. They have been coming out on a variety of flies with the best being a white Bunny Leach or a Hot Head Damsel fished near the surface on a floating line. When they stop chasing the lures they have been taking small Bloodworms and Crunchers and even coming up for the dry in the right conditions. Notable catches have been A cook 4-25lb, C Martin 2-17lb 8oz, R Cowan 3-20lb and C Dixon had a great few hours releasing two fish around the10-11lb mark in a six fish haul.

The Bankside Pool has had an algae bloom resulting in reduced visibility but it is now clearing every day. This gave the fish a break for a few days resulting in great action at the weekend if you could get the right fly. Top flies have been Olive Buzzers and Green Diawl Bachs or Orange Blobs and Yellow Dancers if you are fishing lures. Top catches have been B Kirk 3- 7lb 5oz, A Neilson 5-14lb2oz, J Smith 2-6lb12oz and I Gordon releasing 11.

The Woodside Pool has been fishing very well with lots of limit bags coming off. The average size of the fish has been around the 1lb 6oz mark with some fish up to 2lb 4oz coming out. The best method has been worm or power bait but most methods are working. Top catches have been R Thompson 4-7lb, T Drummond 2-3lb8oz, J Reid 2-3lb 2oz K Wilson 8-12lb 4oz.

The Coarse Pond has had plenty of anglers fishing it with lots of small fish starting to show. Everything from roach and bream to trout and eels have been coming out to maggots and small chunks of worm fished over hemp and ground bait. The big carp are still proving tricky but letting their guard down as the evenings wear on coming up to the surface taking bread and dog biscuits. During the day the best method appears to be the zig rig fished near the surface.

To 5th July 2009

It has been all about the Buzzers this week at Kingennie with anglers finding most colours of buzzer working very well. The fishing has been best early morning and late evening as the bright sunshine with no wind on most days has really put the fish deep during the day making them very hard to catch. Buzzers fished with a Blob or Booby under a bung has been the best method by far but some anglers have had a few fish with lures - mainly Yellow Cone Heads and different kinds of Nomads.

Notable catches the Bankside Pool included Ian Gordon 15+ on C+R,  G Burns had four days C+R with returns of 23 ,20 ,16 ,and 13 most on Olive Buzzers, Fraser Wright 6 for 16lb and Peter Wright 5 for 15lb 9oz – at 6lbs 8oz.

The Specimen Pond has been much the same as last week with the fish lying very deep so sinking lines have been needed during the day fished with Boobies and Lures. The sport has been much better in the evening with the fish coming up in the water as the temperature drops and then teams of Buzzers have done well when fished static under a bung. Notable catches included K Timpson 3 for 24lb 12oz,

Greg Martin 2 for 19lb 8oz, Harry Brough 2 for 19lb and Team North West’s 8 rods took 24 fish for 168lb.

On the Woodside Pool it has been mainly worms or maggots - fish are coming out at an average of 1lb 8oz.

The Boathouse Pool has seen some nice bags of silvers with the small bream starting to make an appearance. Cocktail baits fished on the bottom have been the best method of catching the bream and the big carp have been feeding hard with the biggest weighing in at around 13lbs.

Fishermans Week starts on the 13th July with fun competitions and prizes every day and all permits will have 25% off for the week. Fly and bait competitions are on the 19th and casting demonstrations are on the 18th. But for more details call 01382350213.

Week Ending 28th June 2009

The best fly patterns last week included the Daddy Longlegs, CDC Hoppers, Kate Maclaren and Sedge Muddler and the best fishing areas proved to be the north shore from valve tower to the Dow Burn.

Featuring amongst the top catches were Mr. Campbell from Denny who had 6 fish weighing a total of 15lb 6oz, Mr. Hemmings (Kinross) 5 for 10lb, Mr. Cushing 10 for 24lb 4oz, Jim Flockhart and company (Ayr) 15 for 37lb 10oz – heaviest 4lb and A MacMillan (Comrie) 6 for 15lb 4oz. A Galloway from Kinross kept 6 fish weighing a total of 14lb 2oz, F Richardson & D McGregor (Kinross) 7 for 16lb, B Dick & G Hemmings (Kinross) 8 for 17lb 4oz, Mr. Southworth (Carlisle) 6 for 13lb 8oz, G Keith (Dunfermline) kept 3 fish for 6lb 12oz and Mr. Laird (Falkirk) kept 4 fish weighing a total of 9lb 8oz.

On the club front Aberdour A/A kept 34 fish weighing a total of 79lb 4oz, Cambusbarron F/C 19 for 44lb 15oz, Mayfield Inn A/C 19 for 49lb 14oz. Tullibole A/C 19 for 48lb 10z – heaviest 8lb 6oz and   Clatto & Stratheden A/C kept 13 fish weighing a total of 45lb 11oz. Tillicoultry A/C took 20 fish for a total of 45lb 11oz and Kelty Artisans had 6 fish weighing 15lb 2oz.

Week Ending 14th June 2009

Flat calm conditions for most of the week have put the fish well down in the water with anglers on the Specimen Pond having to use sunk lines pulled along the bottom to pick up fish .Water quality is still improving on the specimen pond with very little rain it has had a chance to clear up a fair bit. The fly patterns working well have included the Miller Skunk, silver/gold Humungus, Cat’s Whisker and some fish have also been caught on more traditional flies such as Watson’s Fancy, Silver Invicta, and the Peter Ross. Only one double came off the pond this week a nice rainbow of 11lb 9oz went to Shane Busher from Dunkeld who managed to land two fish for 17lb 8oz both of his fish were caught on a Silver Humungus. Other notable catches came from T Thompson 4 for 29lb, Ian Fraser 2 for 16lb 6oz, J Thompson 2 for 16lb 4oz and J Milner 1 for 9lb 10oz. The Bankside Pool has seen some more great rises but with the water being so calm catching fish has been difficult. Small flies and light lines has been the only way to get about the fish but with some big fish about a lot of people are being broken. This week also saw the Macmillan Cancer big fish event held at Kingennie with 20 rods taking part and raising £3000 so well done and thank you to all participants. The winner of the competition was Paul Cowley with a limit of 6 fish for 15lb 8oz and he also managed one of the special tags that was worth £300.

On the Bait Pond the fish have been going daft for fake worms so much so that we have had to restock the shop with them most fish this week have averaged 2lb. The water is still quite low but rain is due so that should be back to normal levels soon.

Week Ending 10th May 2009

In a repeat of the pattern from the same time last year the east coast has been beset for weeks now by cold east to north easterly winds and despite this fish can still be seen sipping Emergers from just below the surface on Kingennie's Bankside Pond. Kingennie anglers are using late spring tactics with small naturals such as the Hare’s Ear Emerger, Buzzers and dries, but dressed in winter clothing! Average sizes of fish remains good with a sprinkling of bigger fish to 6 or 7 lbs among them. Mr. Stewart got the week off to a good start with a fine 7lb 8oz rainbow to a Pheasant Tail Nymph while other catches for the week included Mr Soave, 2, 6lb 8oz, Mr Reid, 1, 3lb 8oz, Mr Dickson, 2, 6lb, Mr Campbell, 2, 6lb, Mr Small, 2, 5lb, Mr Anderson, 3, 10lb, and Mr Miller,2, 7lb. Hare’s Ear Emergers, Diawl Bach and small Montana Nymphs all took fish. Catch and release anglers had a good

week too, with regulars taking up to 6 fish and reporting seeing good rises.

On the Specimen Pond the cold winds with alternating bright sunshine and heavy rain has seen the fish lying deeper, and Green and Black Lures, Yellow Dancers and a variety of Cat’s Whiskers all took fish. Catches included Mr Williams, 2, 14lb, Mr Stewart and party from the west coast had 7 for 38lb, Mr Young, 1, 5lb, Mr Edwards, 2, 11lb 8oz, and taking advantage of Kingennie's recently introduced catch and release ticket on the Specimen Pond, Mr Baxter and Mr Campbell felt that their long trip from Selkirk was justified by their tally of nine fish caught and returned on a variety of lures.

The Woodside Pond continued to produce fish to worm, maggot, Powerbait, sweetcorn and fly, thus keeping everybody happy no matter what their favourite bait. Catches included Mr Smith, 2, 3lb12oz, Mr Small, 3, 6lb4oz, Mr Fox, 3, 6lb, Mr Hunter, 1, 2lb, Mr Duncan and partner, 8,15lb8oz, Mr Smith, 4, 8lb, Mr Muir and Partner, 8, 17lb, Mr McTaggart,9, 17lb 8oz, Mr Reid and partner, 8, 16lb, and to finish the week on a high note, Mr Low, fishing with 4 friends, took 21 fish on a cold Sunday evening for 40lb12oz

Week Ending 10th May 2009

It was another very mixed week weather wise, with generally cool temperatures and easterly breezes, but the Kingennie fish don't seem to mind that. All ponds have been fishing well, with the Bankside in particular enjoying good rises of fish. Gentle sipping rises seem to indicate small flies at or just below the surface, and CDC's, small dries and Buzzers have been most successful. Walter Aitcheson, out for his first ever fishing trip with friend Andrew Soutar, got his fishing career off to a spectacular start with the fishing equivalent of a ‘McNab’ - 3 trout of different species, brown, rainbow and blue with his best at 4lb 8oz. Only downside is he's set himself a very high standard which will be difficult to beat!

Another unusual hat trick was chalked up on the Bankside this week. An 11lb Brownie got itself caught and released for the 3rd time this season! Recognisable by distinctive markings, it must be trying to prove that it is not just cats which have nine lives – but one of these days it is going to make a fatal mistake and pick an angler who is not fishing a catch and release ticket! Other notable Bankside baskets included Mr Cooper, 4, 17lb 8oz, and Mr Wilson, 6, 15lb. Catch and release anglers reported some good catches with Mr Ferguson bucking the trend of small flies to take and return 9 to an Apps Blob.

The Specimen Pond also saw fish turning to naturals rather than lures and Mr Bailey and party from Falkirk had a great days sport with 22 fish for 127lb 12oz. Other catches

included Mr Williams, 2, 13lb, Mr Kirkwood, 1, 9lb 4oz, Mr Lloyd, 2, 14lb 4oz, and Mr Burns and partner, 3,17lb 8oz.

The Woodside any legal lure pond has continued to produce some quality catches, with worms, maggots, Powerbait and sweetcorn all taking their share. Average weights have been good too, with many fish in the 2 to 3lb range. Catches on the Woodside included Mr Jarrow, 4, 6lb, Mr Robb,4, 7lb12oz, Mr Douglas, 4, 8lb4oz, Mr Tragham, 2, 4lb, Mr Sturrock, 4,11lb, Mr Kelly, 6, 12lb, Mr McDonald, 3, 6lb8oz, Mr Matthew, 4, 7lb4oz,Mr Douglas, 4, 9lb12oz.

On the Coarse Pond both carp anglers and silver fish adherents have enjoyed good sport, though they would all like to see the water temperature a bit higher. Fred Irvine was very happy with his fine specimen carp at 15lbs.

Week Ending 6th April

The fine spring weather enjoyed most days by the east coast of Scotland, combined with it being the school holidays, has seen a busy week for the fishing team at Kingennie. The Bankside Pond has seen some cracking rises of fish, particularly in the evenings, which is great since the evening sessions are now in full swing. Dry flies have very successful on the Bankside with Olives and Grey Wulffs taking some quality Browns and Rainbows. The Blues are figuring less frequently in catches and seem to be still feeding closer to the bottom where a variety of bloodworm patterns are finding favour with them.

Although the weather has been bright the wind has been cool and on the Woodside any legal lure pond bait anglers have found the fish feeding deeper, with Powerbait out-catching worm and maggot as well as the fly. The Woodside pond is very popular with anglers at opposite ends of the age spectrum and pensioners and school kids alike have been revelling in catches which have been including significant numbers of fish in the 3lb+ class as evidenced by Mr Allan's 4 for 12lb.

The Specimen Pond fish are still showing a preference for lures particularly black, and black and green. Among the catches, Mr Taylor had a fine basket of 3 for 17lb 8oz to a Black and Green Bunny Leech, Mr McHardy, 3 for 18lb, and Mr Hayes had a cracking tagged fish at 8lb.

All three Kingennie ponds have been stocked with fish with tags of a variety of colours with prizes for anglers lucky enough to catch one varying from a selection of flies to free fishing, meals in Kingennie's Waterside Restaurant and a cash pot.

Week Ending 6th April 2009

On the individual front B Dick & G Hemmings (Kinross) kept 12 fish weighing a total of 26lb 4oz, Mr. Murray (Alloa) 5 for 12lb 8oz,. On the Club front the Kirkcaldy Deaf FFC kept 20 fish weighing a total of 49lb 4oz.

The best last week included the Olive Fritz Damsel, Yellow and Coral Dancer, Red Diawl Bach and a variety of Buzzers.

Up to 30th march 2009

Despite the gusty winds swooping through Kingennie all week this didn't stop the fish feeding off the surface on the Bankside Pool. The fish seemed to have got into a feeding frenzy scooping up small midges that have been hatching. Most of the fish still seem to be holding in the shallows in both bays, and fish catching tactics this week included Skinny Buzzers, White CDC’s although small Damsels are still taking fish on floating lines. Included in the best baskets were Mr. Flynn Dundee 6 for 19lbs, Mr. Todd, Fife, 6 for 15lbs, James Quinn 6 for 14lbs 8oz and Mr. Pigan returned 12 on the CDC. Mr. Swavie from Brechin caught and returned 10 on Buzzers.

The Specimen Pool has seen a blinding week with some lovely over wintered brown trout still coming off, most of which have been taking big black lures fished on an intermediate lines. Regular visitor Bob Millar had 2 for 14lbs, Hugh Bairner, Fife, 4 for 25lbs and Mr. Chapman returned 10 fish 3 of which were overwintered browns taken on a Silver Sparkler.

Just a reminder that the 2009 fishing prices have dropped on both the Specimen pool and on the Woodside pools.

Week Ending 23rd March 2009

The much warmer weather last week made for great sport at Kingennie with lots of naturals hatching sending the fish into a feeding frenzy. The Bankside Pool has seen the best of the rises with various dries doing the job including  the CDC, Hoppers, Foam Beetles and Sedge Hogs and lures are still catching with the Nomads, Coneheads and Dancers all getting their fair share of fish. The fish pot was won this week by Mr. Ronnie Dundonald from Glenrothes who caught 5 fish for 14lbs 8oz including a 2lb trout with a black tag in its dorsal fin - so well Ronnie for scooping the £136 fish pot. Other notable catches included Mr. Smith from Dundee who had a nice brownie of 3lb in his bag of 2 for 6lb and Bret O'Neil 6 for 16lb 3oz with a nice blue of 2lb 5oz.

On the Specimen Pond things have been a bit slower but local expert brownie catcher Bob Miller managed some nice fish this week with his best a cracking looking overwintered brown trout of 8lbs 8oz - Bob caught the fish on his now legendary Miller Skunk. Other notable catches on the Specimen were the MaCavoy outing of 4 rods that took 7 fish for 44lbs 8oz, A Turner 2 rainbows for 16lbs, James Rice 1 brownie 7lb and Ryan Miller 2 rainbows for 14lbs 8oz.

On the any legal method pond power bait has been the best bait this week with most of the fish falling to either orange or bright green most anglers got bag limits from this pond.

The coarse pond has now been stocked with more roach and bream along with a few little bonus species good luck to all trying to catch the new fish

Week Ending 15th march 2009

Kingennie produced some quality sport this week when the weather warmed up and the winds dropped to a minimum. The fish came to the surface giving the anglers the chance to fish dry flies with great results.

Best method on the Bankside Pool this week had to be floating lines and small black dries or buzzers. Mr Ferrier and son took 4 for 10lbs on a small sedge pattern; Mr Massie from Forfar had 8 on C+R using Skinny Black Buzzers, Mr Small, Dundee, 12 C&R 12 on the C.D.C and M. Clark 6 for 18lbs on an Olive Buzzer. Mr Rigby had a brace weighing 5lbs and also managed to catch a blue tag winning him a meal for two in the Waterside restaurant.

The start of the brown trout season got off to a great start on the Specimen Pool producing some overwintered browns. Ziggy Simpson from Glasgow had two browns for 8lb 6oz on a Black Lure, and the best method was intermediate lines fished a foot under with small Black Lures. Other notable catches included Mr Clarkson who had 1 brown that tipped the scales at 9lb on a Black Buzzer and Craig Horsburgh and Craig Dixon from fife had 100lb of fish on C&R the biggest weighing in at an estimated14lb all of which were caught on Black Lures.

 Week Ending 9th March 2009

Last week saw very cold winds swooping in at Kingennie and pushing the fish down in the water table. The Bankside Pool has been fishing well to lures last week with the top patterns being the White Bunny Leech, Silver Humungus and the Black and Green Fritz all taking fish on floating and intermediate lines in the deeper water. The new tagging system has been showing great results with numerous tags being caught.  Mr. Cook from Perth had a blue tag winning him a meal for two in the Waterside Restaurant, Mrs Sturton had a red tag winning her 10 flies also catching a tag fish was Mr Sutherland on the Specimen Pool and Mr. Reid on the Woodside Pool. The black tag stocked in all three pools still remains to be caught and brings the fish pot this week to £80.

Top catches this week included Ian Gordon from Tealing had 40 fish on catch and release for his week mainly taken on his lethal Yellow Cone Head pattern. Mark Chalmers from Dundee managed to catch his biggest rainbow and biggest brown on the same day - the rainbow was estimated at around 16lb by the fishery manager before being returned and the brown trout estimated at 8lb. On the Specimen Pool top patterns included

the Silver Humungus, White Polar Bear and small Cat’s Whiskers fished on an intermediate line.

Week Ending 1st March 2009

The spring like weather of the past week or so has made the fishing that wee bit more enjoyable as well as having a impact on the fish with more fish coming up off the bottom to feed. Most of the fish caught on the Specimen Pool last week have been taken on floating lines with Damsel variations doing the best. Two doubles were caught over the weekend one at 10lb exactly by Andy Tervit from Paisley and the other, a cracker of 11lbs 2oz was caught by R Melville a NZ James fly.

On the Bankside Pool the Trout Master final was won by young angler Matthew Fulton who managed his 5 fish limit in the first hour of the competition - his total weight for the final was 5 for 12lb 5oz all taken on a Hot Head Damsel fished on a floating line so congratulations and good luck to him in the grand final at Grafham Water.

It was a week for young anglers on the Woodside Pool with Kara Whelan age 3 being knocked off the big fish board by Billy D'Alessandro age 7 as his fish of 4lb 4oz beat the old record of 2lb 7oz. Most baits have been doing well with the worm is catching the bigger fish – the pot now stands at £90

Week Ending 22nd February 2009

Another busy week at Kingennie saw most anglers catch on Damsel and Buzzers fished on either slow intermediate lines or floating lines with gold head damsels or weighted lures.

The Specimen Pond was a bit coloured at the start of the week making it that wee bit harder but as the week went on and the water started to clear up things got a little easier. Notable catches included R Taylor of Penicuik had 4 for 19lb - two on a Damsel and two on a Yellow Fritz and his fishing partner W McCombe had 3 for 14lb all caught on a Miller Skunk mk2. The biggest fish of the week was an 8lb 2oz caught by local angler G Jack of Monifieth.

The Bankside has fished well for most anglers some returning up to 15 fish a session while some others struggled to even get a pull. The best fly for this week on the Bankside was the Hot Head Damsel fished static under a bung or Buzzers fished on either slow intermediate lines or floating lines with gold head damsels or weighted lures .

The best fly for this week on the Bankside was the Hot Head Damsel fished static under a bung or stripped through the surface film – it didn't seem to matter as the fish just hammered this pattern if cast in the right place .

The Woodside, any method, fished the best of all the ponds with nearly every angler getting a limit method of the week was by far float fished worm.

Week Ending 2nd February 2009

The Bankside Pool at Kingennie t saw the fishery workers out breaking  ice to allow fisherman the opportunity to brave the short winter sessions. Those who did brave the perishing conditions were rewarded with some great sport taking fish on small nymphs like G.R.H.E and bloodworm patterns fished on a floating line about 2 feet under. Colin Shepherd from Dundee had a catch and release session returning 8, Mr Williams took 28 fish all on a Bloodworm on C+R and Keith Prior 17 on a Dazzler. Mrs D Small 6 for 16lbs, Mr B Mar 4 for 12lbs and Mr Christian had a nice fish of 6lb on a Damsel.

The new catch and release ticket on the Specimen Pool is working well with some good numbers coming off. There have been a lot of brown trout appearing over the 10lb mark that where stocked throughout the summer and as they are out of season they are all being returned safely to the water. Bob Millar from Dundee took 2 for 9lbs on a Millar Skunk, Mr Fulton 5 for 29lbs on various lures and Ian Smith caught 8 on a C+R ticket using a Golf Humungus. There has been a new tagging system introduced in all the ponds with some great prizes to be won - please phone for details.

Week Ending 26th January 2009

The Bankside Pool is back on track after a short break and has been ice free even after some cold wintery days. The fish still seem to be gathering in the shallower bays crashing into the small roach fry. The most productive methods seems to be a Bloodworm fished about 3 foot under a sight bob and Dundee angler Paul Mathers took over 20 all on Buzzers and Bloodworms.

The Specimen Pool has opened up for catch and release for the first time and is showing some great returns. Last week there was over 5 double figure brown caught and returned with the biggest weighing in at 12lb. Mr. Cowan from the R.A.F club had a field day catching 5 browns in one day with the biggest just over the 10lb mark – all were taken on a Humungus fished on an intermediate line. The Specimen Pool prices have dropped to £18 for catch and release, £35 for 4 fish, £30 for 3 fish, and £20 for 2 fish.

Week Ending 28th December 2008

The Bankside Pool saw the yearly competition taking place with 21 anglers participating and happily catching 150lb of fish. Sye Gall from Arbroath cracked it from the word go with his first cast producing a lovely fish of 5lb 11oz - he carried on to catch 8 fish in total for 15lb 11oz. With a flat calm start the day saw fish rising all around taking small buzzers and even dries. As the day went on the cold east wind pushed the fish down making them slightly harder to catch. Best tactics for the afternoon was 2 small Cormorants fished on a floating line...The final results were 1st Sye Gall, Arbroath- 15lb 5oz, 2nd Gilbert Cheetham, Dundee-13lb 4oz and 3rd Robbie Mather, Dundee- 11lb 4oz.

Week Ending 21st December 2008

The fishing at Kingennie last week was dependent on the weather with the high winds and chilly mornings seeing the fish gathering in the shallow bays in the Bankside Pool where they were taking lures like Yellow Dancers and black and greens fished on a floating line. On the warmer days the fish have been close to the surface taking the likes of small un-weighted Damsel Nymphs on a floating line. Keith Prior from Broughty Ferry had a bumper of a day taking over 10 on a catch and release ticket with most of the trout falling to a small Damsel - he even managed to tempt two or three on a dry off the surface.

The Specimen Pool has fished well last week with the favourite fly patterns being White Cats and the White Bunny Leech fished on an intermediate. The biggest fish this week was taken by David whose 11lb specimen fell to the charms of a Yellow Dancer fished slowly along the bottom on a DI3.

The Woodside Pool is still producing bigger fish with the average this week topping the 2lb mark. Top method has been the good old worm fished under a float at about 6 feet.

There will be a Competition on the Bankside Pool on Sunday 28th December and as spaces are filling up it is best to phone 01382 350777 to reserve your place now. Merry Christmas from all at Kingennie

Week Ending 7th December 2008

Winter has well and truly set in at Forbes of Kingennie where the cold weather over the last couple of weeks has killed off the weed and has improved the fishing on the Bankside Pool. With the weed dying off the fish have moved into the shallower water in the bays and despite the hard frost and snow the fish are still feeding on small flies such as spiders, sedges and weighted damsels Notable catches includes Mr Bain 3 for7lb, Mr Craig from Stirling 22 on catch & release using sedge patterns, Mr Day 4 for 12lbs, Mrs Williamson 3 for 8lb and Mr Black used a Damsel to take 12 on a catch and release basis.

The Specimen Pool has fished a bit slower this week but those who braved the conditions had some nice fish. The pool has fished best early morning with sinking lines and big lures being the best method of choice. Foremost of the specimen hunters last week was Mr L Turner who took a fish that tipped the scales at 9lb 8 oz and he tempted this fine rainbow on a green and white lure on a DI3 fished really slowly .Other notable catches included T James from Dundee with 2 for 16lb 3oz, Mr Potter, Aberdeen, 4 for 28lb, Mr Thompson 3 for 21lb and Grant Osler 2 for 16lb 5oz.

The Woodside Pool is still fishing best to maggots fished off the bottom and the biggest fish last week was a 3lb 3oz rainbow caught by local angler Alan Doyle.

Week Ending 8th November

The distinctly colder weather seemed to make a few anglers reluctant to brave the elements, but it didn't seem to put the Kingennie fish off feeding! The trend seemed to be fewer anglers, but for those who had ago, more fish was the result.

The Woodside Pond (any legal lure) pond saw some excellent baskets taken on worm, maggot and fly. Mr Adamson had 8, 12lb 8oz, Mr Fleming, 4, 5lb8oz, Mr Ramsay and party, 7, 12lb 8oz and Mr Hunter, 5, 10lb 8oz. Mr Allan, 4, 7lb 8oz, and Mr Lang, 2, 2lb 8oz. Mr Dear brought his son out for his first ever fishing trip young master Dear got his fishing career off to a great start by out fishing his dad 5 to 1 with their combined basket being 6, 9lb 8oz.The early part of the week saw catch and release anglers enjoy some fantastic sport on buzzers, despite the low temperatures, with Mr Dickson returning over 20 fish, and a day later, Mr Bruce taking and returning 15. Other catches included Mr Rew, 4, 10lb, Mr Smith, 2, 5lb, Mr Hutton, 2, 6lb 8oz, Mr Gray, 2, 4lb 8oz and Mr Rench, 3, 8lb 12oz. Mr Falconer, 3, 6lb 4oz, Mr Harrow, 2, 4lb 8oz, Mr Smith, 2, 5lb, Mr Small,4, 11lb and Mr Williams, 2, 4lb 8oz. Successful flies varied throughout the week with Buzzers being particularly effective in the first half, and Orange Blobs, Minkies and a variety of mini lures doing well in the latter half of the week.

The Specimen Pond was lightly fished, but never-the-less yielded some good fish, including, Mr Gerrard, 1, 7lb, Mr Miller, 3 for 22lb 8oz over two sessions, with his best at 10lb 8oz, Mr Smith, 1, 5lb 8oz, and Mr Rotherham, 2, 16lb 8oz taken on a Bunny Leech. Frustratingly for the Specimen Pond anglers, several fine browns were taken and of course carefully returned.

Week ending 2nd November 2008

The cold morning frost has well and truly set in at Forbes of Kingennie where the colder weather over the last couple of weeks has killed off the weed and is improving the fishing on the Backside Pool .With the weed dying off the fish have moved into the shallower water in the bays. Despite the hard frost and cold winds the fish are still feeding on small flies like Spiders. Grey Sedge, Black Pennell and Damsels. Some of the bigger browns stocked earlier in the year have started to make an appearance on fry imitations. Notable catches included Gilbert Cheetham from Dundee 5-11lb 8oz, Mr Bain 3 - 7lb, Mr. Craig from Stirling 22 on catch and release on Sedge patterns, Mr. Price 4-12lb,  Mr. McIntosh 3 -6lb and Mr. Christie took 6 on Damsels on a C+R ticket.

The Specimen Pool has had a superb week with some great catches and fished best in the early afternoon when things start to warm up. Sinking lines and big Black Lures seem to be the method of choice for most of the specimen hunters. Best fish this week was caught by local angler Mrs. Shona Mathews the fish topped the scales at 16lb 8oz - Shona tempted the rainbow on a Black and Green on a DI3 fished fast .More notable catches included Tam Kemlo from Dundee 2-16lb, Mr Craig, Stirling 4 - 28lb including 1 at 9lbs, Mr. R Easson 7 - 37lb including 1 at 10lbs, Grant Osler 2-19lb 5oz, Mrs. Fyffe 4-13lb,Mrs S Mathews 2 - 24lbs.

The Woodside Pool is still fishing best to Maggots fished off the bottom along the south bank. There have been a few bigger fish showing in the last couple weeks - biggest this week weighing in at 5lb 2oz and caught by junior angler Tom Smith from Aberdeen. Also doing well were Mrs. Maureen Sturton and Mr Bill Sturton Dundee 8-12lb, Mr. T Gall 4-9lb and ,Mr. Smith 2-7lb.

Week Ending 6th October 2008

Black is beautiful; at least that's what the trout in Kingennie's Specimen Pond seem to think! Black Zonker, Black Humungus, Black Bunny Leech, Black Cormorant, Black and Green Lure, Black Dancer and the Black Booby to name but a few. There was the occasional exception to prove the rule with the Cats Whisker and Damsel Nymphs taking one or two fish but for the majority black was the order of the day. The week also saw a number of hard fighting big brownies figuring in the catches along with some superb rainbows looking their spectacular best as the rainbow coloured gill covers and sides take on a deeper hue as if trying to match the autumn leaves in vividness. Catches included Mr Duncan, 1,6lb, Mr Smith, 2, 10lb, Mr Culbertson, 4, 20lb 8oz, Mr Torrance, 2,9lb 8oz and Mr Lawrie, fishing with his son, had 6 for 26lb between them. Two parties made the long trip from the west this week - Mr Sinclair and party from Ayrshire had 13 for 54lbs whilst from Paisley and district Mr Fulton and party had 9 for 41lb 8oz, including 7 browns. As the brown trout season draws to its close on 7th October Kingennie

Regular, Bob Millar, finished his Specimen Pond season with 25 browns for 139lb 8oz.He claims to have had so many rainbows he's forgotten how many! Several anglers have reported seeing a massive rainbow of around 16lbs cruising the margins of the Specimen Pond, but despite pulse and casting rates going up it has steadfastly treated all offerings with contempt. It's one of a number of big doubles which have been stocked recently and someone is going to have a fight to remember on their hands one of these days!

Despite the distinctly lower temperatures at the Bankside Pond trout continue to feed at or close to the surface and with floating lines still the order of the day for the majority of Bankside anglers presentation rather than colour seemed to be the key factor with a number of anglers reporting that success came after they went down to maximum 5lb breaking strain leaders of up to 20feet in length. Olive Damsels, Pheasant Tails and Diawl Bachs did well, as did CDC's and dries. Catches included Mr Paton, 2,4lb, Mr McCallan, 2, 5lb, Mr Wright, 1, 3lb, Mr Dagan, 2, 5lb, Mr Culbertson, 4, 9lb 8oz, Mr Wilson, 3, 6lb 8oz, Mr Roy,2, 4lb, Mr Johnston, 4, 10lb, Mr Adamson, 5, 12lb, Mr Szwec, 6, 15lb and Mr McAndrew and partner, 12, 28lb 8oz. Catch and release anglers also had some good sport, and Mr Mulligan had 5 to dry flies, Mr Ferguson, 4, Mr Whitton, 7, and Mr McMaster, 5.

Worm seemed to be the bait of choice for the Kingennie Woodside any legal lure Pond and the school holidays saw a number of youngsters out to test their skills. Young Alistair Thompson (12), fishing with his dad, out-fished Alistair senior by 4 fish to 3, their 7 fish weighing in at 9lb 8oz. Other catches included, Mr Black, 2, 3lb8oz, Mr Kelbie, 3,4lb12oz, Mr Fleming, 4, 5lb8oz, Mr Stevens, 4, 5lb, Mr Russo, 4, 5lb8oz,Mr Keirnan and partner, 8, 10lb, Mr Keetley, 2, 3lb8oz, Mr Dow, 4,

6lbMr Sturton, 9, 12lb, and Mr Kennedy, 3, 3lb12oz. As temperatures drop, water conditions are good, with excellent clarity in all ponds

Week  Ending 21st September 2008

Dry flies did the business on Kingennie's Bankside Pond this week. In particular, black Shipman’s and CDC's accounted for most of the fish. Catch and release anglers did particularly well, with several reporting double figures and at least one expert, Gordon Patterson, having a red letter day with 23 caught and returned – several weighed between 3 and 4lbs. Other catches included, Mr Soave, 2, 6lb, Mr Mitchell, 2, 4lb, Mr Ramage, 3, 9lb, Mr White, 2, 6lb, Mr Jamieson, 5, 13lb 4oz, Mr Williamson, 4, 10lb2oz, Mrs Thompson, 3, 9lb and Mr White, 2, 6lb. Fishing a father and son ticket, James Elliot and 13 year old son Jamie had 5 for 12lb 8oz, with young Jamie getting 3 to his dad's 2. On the Specimen Pond, browns have been to the fore in catches with the best going to the rod of Bob Miller at 9lb 8oz. Bob had 5 rainbows and browns for 29lbs for his 4 outings at Kingennie last week. Other catches included, Mr Steven, 1, 8lb12oz, Mr Ross, 3, 12lb, Mr Heenan, 1, 7lb, Mr Johnston 3, 19lb, (best a brown at 7lb 8oz, Mr McCaskill, 1, 5lb 8oz, Mr Littleton, 2, 14lb (including a 6lb 8oz brown) and Kirkcaldy Deaf Fly Fishers had 13 for 49lb 8oz for their visit. Successful flies included the Silver Humungous, Black Zonker, Bunny Leech and Orange Fritz.

On the Woodside Pond, some great quality rainbows and browns have been landed. Best fish for the week was a superb 5lb brown taken on a worm by George Sanderson fishing an OAP ticket. There have also been browns at 3lb 8oz and 3lb 4oz. Best rainbow was a fully finned three and a half pounder which gave a great account of itself on a light spinning rod and maggot. Catches included Mr Craig, 4, 4lb 8oz, Mr Douglas, 2, 3lb 8oz, Mr Bartrop, 2, 2lb 12oz, Mr Eton, 4, 6lb 8oz, Mr Sanderson, 3, 8lb and Mr Black, 8, 10lb 8oz. Mr Barr, 5, 6lb, Mr Ferguson, 8, 9lb 8oz, Mr Bell, 6, 9lb, Mr Grieve, 10, 13lb 8oz, Mr Reid, 2, 3lb, Mr Gray, 4, 6lb, Mr Fyffe and party, 6, 8lb12oz, Mr James, 4, 8lb, Mr Simpson, 2, 6lb and Mr Stirton, 12, 15lb. Worm was most successful, though fly anglers fishing orange Blobs also did well.

Week Ending14th September 2008

It was another busy week on the Kingennie Bankside and Woodside Ponds with very few blanks and a good many happy anglers catching some of Kingennie's hard fighting trout.

The Bankside Pond saw a real mix of lures and flies taking fish with the honours pretty much even between lures and the more traditional flies. Cats Whisker, Yellow Dancer, Cormorants and Zonkers in a variety of colours all took fish while the Floating Fry, Buzzers, Claret Hoppers, Sedges and Diawl Bachs fished on or close to the surface were also successful. Bankside catches included Mr Davidson, 2, 4lb 8oz, Mr Lamont, 2, 4lb10oz and 3 returned, Mr Rigby, 2,5lb, Mr Hayes, 1,3lb, Mr Wells, 3,6lb and Mr McQueen, 1, 4lb8oz brownie.  Mr McNeil, 4, 12lb, Mr Reid, 2,4lb, Mr Wilson had a fine basket of 6 for 15lb 8oz and Tam Kemlo had 10 for 26lb 8oz and a number returned for his 5 sessions.

The Woodside (any legal lure) Pond continues to produce catches which include fish in the 3lb class. Worm was particularly successful this week  with baskets such as Mr Stewart, 2, 4lb, Mr Robertson, 2,4lb, Mr Watson, 2,5lb, Mr Gibson, 2,4lb, Mr Bartrop, 4, 5lb 8oz and Mr Wangford, 6,9lb. Mr Cunningham, 4,6lb 8oz, Mr McNeil, 4,7lb, Mr Steadman, 4,5lb, Mr Ballantine, 4,6lb, Mr Hamilton, 4,6lb and Mr Stevens, 3,5lb. On Sunday 14th, Mary Ellen Spence celebrated her 10th birthday with a party of her friends at Kingennie enjoying a barbecue, putting and fishing. Everyone, including Mary Ellen, caught fish, with the total birthday catch coming in at 25 fish for 47lb 4oz.

The Specimen Pond was lightly fished last week but the few who ventured out after Kingennie's big fish found them taking a variety of lures including Zonkers, Humungous and a Kingennie favourite, the Green Pea. Catches included, Mr Rodger and partner, 4, 18lb 8oz, Mr Easson, 1, 5lb and Mr Gerrard, 4, 18lb12oz. Ian Willis and party fishing both the Specimen and the Bankside ponds finished with 10 on the Specimen for 48lb14oz and 9 on the Bankside for 20lb 6oz. Water levels on all Kingennie's ponds are good, as is water clarity.
