Canals Trust


The Canals Trust have over 2,000 miles of waterway to look after for the many interest groups who use them. With so much water it is no wonder that fishing is high on the list of activities.

The Trust issues a Waterway Wanderers Permit that entitles you to go fishing on an impressive amount of water throughout England (for just £20).

Barnwell Country Park


Barnwell Country Park has 2 former gravel pits covering 5.9 hectares plus 1kn of the river Nene. There are some special fish in these waters with carp to 46lbs recorded and pike to 28. In adfdition thereare tench, perch, roach, chub, bream and F1s.

There is good access with 3 wheelchair accessible swims on Mill Lake and 2 on North Lake.

Castle Ashby Fisheries


Fishing on 3 lakes;

The Brickyard, 2 acres, 26 pegs a regular match venue.- a good variety of fish including tench, rudd, roach, bream, crucians, perch and gudgeon;

Scotland, 9 acres, 40 pegs, lot of carp in the teens, plus fish in the twenties and some specimens.There are also tench, bream, roach, rudd, skimmers, gudgeon.

Grendon, 8 acres, 60 pegs, carp to the 20s, skimmers, roach, perch catches up 200lb not uncommon.

There is a lodge and cafe on site.

Girton Complex


Located near Newark this fishery complex consists of 3 former gravel pits totalling 200 acres.

Girton A is a 65 acre lake with deep water to contain the 300 to 400 carp it holds. There are known to be 15 30s, 3 40s and a 50lb plus monster.

Girton B is a 105 acre lake, holds some carp.

Girton C is a 25 acre water with carp to the mid thirties.

There is also the Cove available only as a full lake booking. 10 acres stocked with 1000 carp in 5 to 18lb range plus some older stock to 30+.

Lakeside Fisheries


3 lakes totalling 3 acres near Greens Norton. Large lake is 2.25 acres with 24 swims; Medium is half an acre with 8 swims and Small is a quarter of an acre with just 1 swim.

The lakes hold carp to 30lbs, barbel to 9, plus bream, chub, tench, roach.

Northampton Borough Council


Abington AC has acquired the fishing rights for Abington Park Middle lake. Northampton Borough Council also has waters allowing fishing where permits, day and season, can be bought on the bank. These are: Duston Mill Reservoir, Becket's Park, Delapre Lake, Crescent Lake Brackmills, Shelfleys Lake, Midsummer Meadow.

Northampton and Nene Angling Club


Northampton and Nene AC can boast that it has been around since Queen Victoria was boss lady. A very active club with a good match scene.

The club has extensive fishing on the Nene at Weston Mill, Brampton, Coganhoe, Earls Barton Mill, on the Grand Union Canal and the Northamton Arm of the GUC, the Great Ouse at Turvey and Newton Blossomville.

They also have Meadow Lakes, 2 lakes with mixed species including carp to 30lb, good tench and bream.

Swan Valley, located on the Swan Valley Industrial Estate, a shallow lake with roach, bream, pike and elusive carp.

Day Tickets are available except for the Great Ouse and Swan Valley, but membership is inexpensive and there are concessions for juniors (up to 17yo), seniors and disabled anglers. With the exception of Swan Valley and Meadows night fishing is allowed and free.

Pitsford Reservoir


Fishing for pike, perch and zander - predators! Reports of pike up to 40lbs with 30lb plus fish taken recently. If I fell overboard at Pitsford I don't know whether I would more afraid of drowning or being eaten alive.

Bank fishing with lures or dead sea bait allowed 1st November to 14th February only, otherwise it is boat fishing. There is a wheelieboat. Fishing permits range from season and day tickets available call 01604 781350.

Raventhorpe Reservoir


Another Anglian Water reservoir dating back to the late Victorian ages stocked annually with 8,500 rainbows including fish up to 15lbs.

There are some massive pike with a fish of 42lbs recorded taken on the fly!

Boat and bank fishing available, float tubing too, hmm 42 lb pike. Hook one of them in a float tube and it runs you will look like you are waterskiing!.

There are several permit options available to suit your needs including day, season and a 1 fish plus C & R permit for senior citizens.

Fishing Lodge and toilets on site. There is a wheelieboat which you should call to book, call 01604 770875.

Sywell Reservoir


Over 100 years old this reservoir of 65 acres near Wellingborough holds some big pike, 30lbs plus, tench, good roach plus perch and rudd. It has a reputation for the tench being very big with fish to 12lb being caught.

There is a self service system for permits or you can buy at the Rangers Office. Concessions for juniors 12 to 16, seniors and disabled anglers. Call 0300 126 5935 for further information.

Wellingborough and District Nene Angling Club


The first thing noted about this club is it is active, very active running coaching sessions, work parties, matches, open days, great stuff.

The club has a lot of fishing on offer:

Ringstead Complex includes fishing on the Nene, a backwater of the river, 2 lakes, Brightwell's and Barker's and 2 pools known as the Mill Cotton fishery. The fishery is accessible for disabled anglers with suitable facilities.

The lakes have good bream, tench, roach and carp, the river has big pike lots of roach and bream some perch to over 4lbs and carp. Mill Cotton is a mixed coarse fishery of 2 lakes the larger of which holds carp and silvers while the smaller is for silver fish only.

At Canons Ashby they have an arrangement with Castle AC to fish.

The Grand Union Canal fishing is 3.5 miles of the canal from bridge 60 Near Foxtons Lock to bridge 46 near Husbands Bosworth with fishing for roach, bream, perch, a good match venue.

They have fshing on the Nene at Barwell and in Duchess Lake and at Hardwater Mill, they have acquired Swanspool Lake and have Grendon lake which has some very nice carp.

In addition they have fishing on the Great Ouse from Harrold Bridge to Felmersham.

Membership is very reasonable with some concessions to boot, tickets from tackle shops in Northamton, Corby, Kettering, Ringstead, Desborough and Irlingborough.

Willowbrook Fishery


Located near Islip Willowbrook consists of 2 good sized lakes (Willowbrook and Ryston) holding stocks of specimen fish with serious, tench, bream and good carp. Saw pics of one catch, the description dinner plates only fits if they were plates for Desperate Dan, big fish!.
