Nairn

The Association water at Pitlochry

Fishing 6 miles of the Nairn 3 miles double bank 3 miles single bank. Excellent fly water available.

In recent years salmon catches have been first class with returns in the 1000+ range. Sadly the sea trout have been in serious decline in line with returns on other east coast and northern rivers.

Ness

The Ness is only 6 miles long flowing from Dochfour by Loch Ness, however it is a sizeable being the outflow from the loch. The season is now 1st February to October 15th. Google Map Reference 57.485336, -4.231251

The lower three miles of the Ness from the estuary to the Clachnahagaig Stone at Red Braes are controlled by the Inverness Angling Club.

Nevis

Flowing down from the side of the tallest mountain in the UK (Ben Nevis) the Nevis reaches the sea at Fort William.

The Fort William Angling Club have the fishing and permits are available from Rods and Guns shop in Fort William call 01397 702656.

Nith

Barjarg

2.5k right bank of easy wading water with three huts to shelter in. Main hut with facilities to heat food and a loo.

6 Named pools. A fish of 67lbs was reputedly taken here, but the leagity of the catch was questioned so it never made it to the record book.

Dalswinton Estate

2.5 miles os fishing from Auldgirth Pump Staion to Portrak Railway Viaduct. Salmon best from August onwards as the river is mainly back end but it does get particularly fish. Sea trout best May June.

They also have very big grayling.

Drumlanrig Castle

10 miles on the river Nith and 8 miles on the Scaur for salmon, sea trout and grayling (no grayling fishing on the Scaur). 5 beats available Nith Linn, Castle Upper, Middle and Lower, Boatford, a total of 40 pools.

Day tickets are available and from April to August 16yos and under get a 50% discount if accompanied by an adult.

There is also fishing available on three lochs:

Starburn Loch; 3 acres stocked with Rainbows, boat / bank.

Slatehouse; 2 acres stocked with rainbows, good peirs and bank fishing

Hillend is a coarse fishing loch stocked with tench

Dumfries Burgh Common Good Fishing


8 miles of the Nith controlled by Dumfries and galloway Council. Beat parts are the 2 miles double bank and 1.5 miles DB on the River Cairn.

Mid Nithsdale Angling Association


Mid Nithsdale Angling Association have been very active providing excellent access to fishing on good pool on their stretch of the Nith.

The have build good road access to pools, automatic gates so there is no need to get out of the car to open them, dedicated parking bays, and an accessible hut between beats 1 and 2.

In total they have 3.5 miles of mostly double bank fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout, 18 named pools. Any legal method allowed.

For disabled anglers ther are 3 set of parking bays;

Bay 1. 8 spaces at the junction of the rivers Scaur and Nith.

Bay 2. at the Cran Pool, excellent spinning and worm fishing.

Bay 3. At the foot of Mathers.
