The Annan


The Annan in the Western Borders of Scotland is an exceptionally accessible river with fishing for salmon, trout, sea trout, grayling and course fish available throughout its length. The river holds some exceptional chub, once holding the Britsh record for chub.

The river rises near Moffat and flows approximately 35 mile to Annan on the Solway Firth offering a full spectrum of fishing throughout the year.

Fishing on the upper Annan near Johnstone Bridge. 5.5mls of water with grayling to 3/4 lbs. Good wild brown trout. Fly or float (worm or maggot) only.

Salmon fishing best from September onwards sea trout from june onwards. 5 year average 84 salmon and 73 sea trout so the permit cost ir very reasonable, day and season available.

Upper Annan Angling Association


UAAA have 4 mile beat at Applegarth and another on the upper river near Moffat. Big wild brown trout to 8lbs, sea trout from May and salmon from June (the Annan here is a back end river and the best of the runs come Sept, Oct Nov).

There are a number of permit options covering trout, salmon and grayling. Under 18s need a permit but fish for free, well done! Day tickets through FishPal.

Kirkwood (Lockerbie)


Kirkwood issue permits for Rotchell beat for coarse fish and trout only, bait fishing is allowed. They also have Jardine beat on the Upper river with salmon, great trout and grayling. They allow any method for chub and grayling from Mid Nov to late Feb. Call 01576 510200.

Cree and Bladnoch

 

High Cree

Mochrum Park


Ten miles of fishing on the Cree, Bladnoch and Palnure Burn. The Bladnoch produces some spring salmon and all three waters fish well from June, with good sea trout fishing on the Cree and Palnure. Newton Stewart AA


Fishing on the river Cree and Penkiln Burn plus 6 lochs for salmon, sea trout and brownies on the rivers and brownies and rainbows on the lochs.

The lochs are Fyntalloch Loch, Loch Ochiltree, Kirriereaoch Loch, Loch Dee, Glenamour Loch and Bruntis Loch. No Sunday fishing on the rivers.

Nith

Dumfries and Galloway Angling Association

Beats, 2.5 miles double bank on the Nith and over 10 miles on the river Cairn (a good spate river) for salmon, sea trout, brown trout and grayling. Long season to 30th November on the Nith.

Permits are available on a Full (10 mile radiaus of Dumfries), Regional Member (10 to 20 mile radius), Season Visitor (outwith 20 mile radius) and Day Ticket basis. Permits from McMillans Tackle, Friars Vennel, Dumfires and The Ree lnn, Friars Vennel.

The club also has fishing on Loch Drum a 7 acre loch stocked with rainbows of 2.5 to 3lbs, there are also some over wintered browns 
and tiger trout.

Mid Nithsdale Angling Association


Mid Nithsdale Angling Association have been very active providing excellent access to fishing on good pool on their stretch of the Nith.

The have build good road access to pools, automatic gates so there is no need to get out of the car to open them, dedicated parking bays, and an accessible hut between beats 1 and 2.

In total they have 3.5 miles of mostly double bank fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout, 18 named pools. Any legal method allowed.

For disabled anglers ther are 3 set of parking bays;

Bay 1. 8 spaces at the junction of the rivers Scaur and Nith.

Bay 2. at the Cran Pool, excellent spinning and worm fishing.

Bay 3. At the foot of Mathers.

New Cumnock Angling Association

The Association has fishing on the Upper Nith (there are salmon and sea trout but the Association will not allow angling specifically for them until stocks improve) for good quality brown trout, stocked regularly, and quality grayling.

They also have fishing on two lochs; Afton, a 100 acre reservoir bank fishing only and Loch Creoch which is on the A76 for which day tickets are issued.

A season ticket is just a few quid more than a day ticket for Creoch so it makes sense to buy one and get access to all of the fishing available.

River Ken near Dalry.

The Darly AA


Dalry AA have fishing on the river Ken (fly only) on the west bank from Earlstoun Power Station to Coum Burn and on the east bank from the suspension bridge to Boatknowe. They also share water with New Galloway AA.

They have fishing on Loch Carsfad (fly, spin, bait) and Earlstoun Reservoir (members and boat only).

The river has good perch, information is scant.

New Galloway AA


New Galloway AA has fishing on the river Ken, Loch Stroan and Loch Ken.


River Ken; Brown trout and occasional salmon C&R applies all season) also some pike, roach and perch. Loch Ken: Brown trout, pike perch, roach, bream. Loch Stoan; Brown trout, pike and perch.
Spinning and bait allowed but no maggots.

Tarff

Corsemalzie House Hotel


Day and week tickets available on their 4.5 mile beat on the Bladnoch and the river Tarff. The river is a spate river and while there are a few fish in the spring many to minnows and spoons the fishing doesn't take off until the first summer spates bring fish in. The fishing in September and October is consistently good. The Tarff has good brown trout fishing and some grilse and salmon in the summer.
