Carron Valley Fishery

Carron Valey Fishery near Denny, reputed to be the best in Scotland, is a 1,000 acre reservoir created in the 1930s by damming the river Carron. Fishing is for brown trout and rainbows from the bank and boat. There are about 4 miles of bank fishing and 30 traditional clinker built boats plus 2 wheelie boats.

There are a number of feeder streams which are perfect for the brown trout to spawn in resulting a flourishing population of quality wild brown trout. They recommend traditional flies, Blae and Black, Kae McLaren and Peter Ross.

There are good facilities including a lodge and tackle shop and they also offer tuition and a ghillie service. Season bank fishing permits are available.

Carron Valley also have fishing on the nearby Faughlin Reservoir.

Glenbervie Trout Fishery


A relatively new fly fishing and bait fishery near Torwood and the other side of the road from the Glenbervie Golf Club. Two lakes the bigger of the two being fly only. Stocked with rainbows, brownies, blues and tiger trout. The fishery includes a bait fishing pond.

Millhall Reservoir


Near Old Polmont run by Avonbank Fishing Club is an 8 acre water surrounded by natural woodland. Fishing is from bank and boat stock mostly with rainbows (average size 2lb to 15lb) some blues and wild brown trout (some reaching double figures). Season and day tickets available.

4.5 acre fishery near Braco stocked twice weekly with quality rainbows in the 2lb plus range. these free rising fish offer good dry fly fishing in a scenic estate setting. There are two boats available and coarse fishing for quality tench.

Swanswater Fishery


Near Sauchieburn is one of the top fisheries consisting of 3 ponds, the biggest Swanwater being about 10 acres. The fishery is stocked with fish of 2lbs up to high doubles including rainbows, blues, browns, tigers and golden trout. There are 3 boats for hire and a float tube. You can bring your own float tube too.

Wellsfield Trout Fishery


Near Denny on the A872 has an enviable reputation boasting a record rainbow of 30lbs 11ozs. There are 3 lochans totalling 12 acres; Lochan Hearadh (5 acres) and Lochan Uaithne (4 acres) both fly only and Lochan Fionn (3 acres) fly, bait and spinning. Stocked with rainbows, browns, blues, steelheads and tigers with fish ranging from 2lbs to 25lbs!
